Climate Change and Risk Management – Part Two
Join us for the second segment of our look at the most dynamic issue facing property and casualty insurers today: climate change. Climate change presents systemic risk factors which could lead to capital adequacy and other challenges for insurers. Major reports such as the United Nation’s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change Summary for Policymakers issued October 8, 2018, to the World Economic Forum’s Global Risk Report issued January 15, 2019 – demonstrate that the insurance industry needs to plan for the manner in which climate risk could have a serious impact on the way their insured companies operate.
Come to our breakfast and hear Dr. John Fegyveresi, a glaciologist and climate scientist, weave together the issues of climate science and risk management.
Dr. John Fegyveresi is an Assistant Professor of Practice at NAU within the School of Earth and Sustainability. He is also serving as the Director of the Climate Science and Solutions (CSS) Professional Masters Graduate Degree Program. The CSS Program combines a foundation of climate science and sustainable systems studies with professional training and organizational skills to help graduates succeed in the growing climate industry. From a research perspective, John’s interests lie in the fields of glaciology, climate science, and polar research. More specifically, his research focus is in the analysis and interpretation of ice cores and polar ice sheets to model past climates and quantify ice-sheet history.
